Male Fertility

Healthy Sperm

For a man to have good fertility he must have healthy sperm. This means

Sperm Count:– the amount should be at least 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen.

Sperm Morphology:– enough of your sperm should be the right shape. If a third of sperm are the right shape you stand a good chance of fertilisation.

Sperm Motility:– the sperm need to be good swimmers, so they can reach the egg.

Acupuncture

The good news is that the research on acupuncture and fertility is very favourable. Research has shown it can increase sperm count, increase normal morphology, and increase motility. Sperm take between 3 and 4 months to grow and be ready. So having acupuncture over this period of time is most beneficial. Research

Lifestyle

By far the most common pattern we see in men experiencing problems with fertility is stress combined with exhaustion. Modern living for many means having a lifestyle of working long hours, never resting, and a culture of running or working out at the gym to try and make amends for this. Stress and over-excercising are known to decrease fertility in men and women. By changing some aspects of your lifestyle you could substantially improve your fertility.

Things you can do:

1. Take the best multi-vitamin you can afford.

2. Take  moderate exercise. Definately do not over excercise.

3. Have some time to de-stress and rest.

4. Cut out or cut down on alcohol, smoking, and caffiene.

5. Watch your weight – being over or underweight can affect your fertility.
